Baker, Albert L.-died May 22, 1873; aged 58th year; the death Hon. Albert L. Baker is announced, who
died at his residence in Buffalo, last Thursday after
a long illness. The deceased was born in Moreau, Saratoga Co.
In the year of 1816 and, consequently was in his fifty-eighth
year at the time of his death, his parents removed to Port Ann,
Washington County and he went to Buffalo about the year 1835 and
studied law with the late Stephen G. Austin. Win 1838 he returned
to Fort Ann and entered into partnership with Hon. E. D. Culver.
He returned to Buffalo in January 1848 and resumed the practise
of the law there. He served as aldeman from the Fifth Ward during
the year 1852-1853. The deceased was a brother of Clifford A.
Baker of this city and Hon. I. V. Backer is a nephew of the deceased.

Her remains were brought to this willage and placed
in the family vault on Tuesday(Feb. 4, 1873). The funeral services
were attended from the Presbyterian Church and were conducted
by Rev. C. J. Hill, of Ansomia Ct. A former pastor of the church.

Coligan, Mrs. X.-died September 5, 1873 aged 65 years
Churchill, Otis-died 12 December 1873; aged in the
68th year of his age; in Fort Edward
Collins, Carrie-died June 20, 1873; aged 28 years; "Suicide of a young girl" Last Friday a young girl
named Carrie Collins, eighteen years of age, daughter
of John H. Collins of this village, died from the effects of poisioning
taken while laboring under mental excitement. It seems from the
evidence given, that the deceased, who has always born a good
character went out for a ride the previous evening in the company
of another girl and two young men. Arriving home late, the deceased
who had resided with her aunt, Mrs. Sweet, did not return to her
house, but went and passed the night at the house of a Mr. Upton.
Her aunt in the morning upbraided her for being away all night.
Carried was very indignant and left the house of her aunt and
returned to Mrs. Uptons. While awaiting for breakfast Carree
was observed to fell from her chair, on the floor, when she began
having convulsions. A doctor was called immediately who pronounced
her case hopeless, and the girl herself told those present "it
was no use, as she would:, and very soon after she was a corpse.
Coronor Nicholas summoned as juror S. Merwin, Smith, foreman,
S. B. Watkins, M. Doherty, John Brett, Jacob Reynolds, A. M. Fanington,
Kevi Faulkenbury, and Anson Perks who after hearing the evidence
of the witnesses, who swore to the deceased keeping poison in
her trunk, returned a verdict that Cattie Collins came to her
death from poison administered by her own hands while laboring
under mental excitement.
Comey, Williams-died June 24, 1873;aged 46; blacksmith
Corbin, Mrs. Charlotte-died (November 2, 1873, Dundee, N. Y. Record); aged 67 years, 5 monthed, born
Whitehall, June 1806; died Rockstream N.Y. at residence
of C. R. Banus fourth of seven children-one of Uhorn Alonzo Simmons
of Reading. M in 1625 to Mr. Corbin who d. 1855, Wash. County.
Culver, Esther Ann-a woman employed on the canal boat "Run Benjamin", Capt. Charles Mellin, fell
from the boat north of Montreal and was drowned.
She was 26 years old.
Denio, Paul-died November 12, 1873; of typhiod fever
Eaton, Max-The Dr. Alvin R. Eaton and wife have the sympathy of scores of friends in the loss of their
son Max, a bright, promising little boy of six years.
The remains were brought here from their home at Elizabeth, N.J.
the funeral taking place from the residence of the grandparents,
Mr. And Mrs. John O'Reilly of West Haven, Vermont.
Fairbanks; body recovered; The many friends who sympathized with Miss Fairbanks of the Union Free
School in the loss of her father by drowning several
weeks since will be glad to learn of the recovery of his body.
Although every effort was made at the time, is was unavailing
until a few days since, some fisherman saw a hand sticking out
of the water, which proved to be the remains of the unfortunate
man. Although the body had been in the eater from April 7 until
May 22, it was in a very good state of preservation.
Farrel, Frankie-died June 16, 1873-youngest son of John and Peace Fareel as 8 years of membraneous
croup:"We listen in vain for his coming feet,
and we miss him everywhere, at the fireside there's a vacant seat,
at the table an empty chair. But comforting promise the saviour
has given; Little ones unto Jesus belong. For he says that "of
such is the kingdom of heaven and Frankie has joined the glad
throng."
Floyd, S. S.-died at the residence of Dr. Gordon last Thursday. Mr. Floyd was a former resident of
Whitehall. He was a principle of the academy in
this village about fourteen years ago. He married the daughter
of the late James Tietney afterwards entering the boot and shoe
trade with his father-in-law. Mr. Floyd left Whitehall about
13 years since taking up his residence in Boston where he engaged
in the practive of Iwa. It was there he contracted the disease,
consumption, which was the cuase of his death. The deceased left
Boston about two years since and bagan the practice of law in
N.Y.C. remaining there until failing health last year made it
necssary for him to relinquish his practice. He then came to
Whitehall hoping the change might restore him again to health
but the disease was too deeply seated to be eradicated and last
week he passed away. He leaves a wife but no children to mourn
his loss.
Gallagher, John-died 20 December 1873; Fell through the ice and drowned while crossing from Pulpit
Point to his boarding house in Dresden.
Garceau, Julie-died May 31, 1873 Last Saturday a woman by the name of Julie Garceau, aged 26, living
near the rock cut was found dead by her husband on
his return from his work. Coroner Nicholas being notified impanneled
the following jury and held an inquest over the remains; Paul
Wells, foreman, S. D. Pierce, Philo Bell, S. H. McAdams, M. Powell
and S. B. Watkins. Mrs. Eliza Amand, being sword said: She knew
the deceased ever since last fall, and that she had been sick
about two weeks; deceased had been living here a fortnight; saw
the deceased seven weeks ago, she did not look well at that time;
deceased was sick all winter; was told Saturday of her death and
came in the house immediately afterwards. Eugeni Garceau being
sworn said: he was the husband of the deceased; he moved to Whitehall
with the deceased two weeks ago; am at work for Theodore Borden
on the docks, last Sunday deceased took to bed; left my wife at
the usual time Saturday to go to my work; returned in about three
hours and found her dead, the doctoer thinks her death was caused
by rheumatism and inflamation of the stomach. Upon this testimony
the jury returned a verdict that Julie Garceau's death was occasioned
by natural causes

Hammond, Thomas & Family-of Crown Point, Lost in the sinking of ocean liner "Velle de Havre"
November 23, 1873; wife and three children; aged
13, 11, & 4.
Hatchkiss, Harvey-died August 16, 1873; aged 57 years; On Sunday of last week Mr. Harvey Hatchkiss
died at his home in Hampton of cancer in the stomach.
The deceased was born in this town near the brick church but
remoeved to Hampton, where he was very much respected. He was
a warm supporter of the ME church and was very much interested
in all matters pertaining to education and morality. Of his daughter
one married Mr. Knapp, now in the Iowa State Department of public
instruction, and another, Mr. Stodderd in business at Poultney.
The services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Webster, Presiding
Elder of the Cambridge District who preached a very elegant and
effective discourse. The deceased was 57 years of age.

Holcomb, george Emmerson-died March 13, 1873; aged
5 months, 13 days; son of Dr. B. R. Holcomb
Hope, Willie-died September 10, 1873; infant son
of Mr. And Mrs. Joesph Hope.
Hull, Krastus-died 8 December 1873; aged 63; at the
residence of his son Edgar Hull in Fort Edward.
Jillson, Joesph-died March 3, 1873; aged 84 years; Mr. Jillson was born in Hartford, in this county and
removed to this town when about twenty years of age,
and has resided here ever since. He was the father of five children,
four of whom are still living, among whom are N.T. Jillson, vice
president of the Northern Transportation Line. Mr. Jillson has
held many offices of trust at the hands of the people of the town,
and filled them with ability and was therefore universally beloved
and respected-He was one of the charter members of the Phoenix
Lodge No. 96, F & AM of this town and on Thursday, March 6,
at 1 o'clock P. M. His brethren of the lodge in which he took
great pleasure, will bear his remains to their last resting place
with the full hope that his soul, "Advancing ever to the
source of light And all perfection, lives, adorns, and reigns,
In endless knowledge, purity, and bliss.
Juckett, Reuben-died May 22, 1873; aged 75 years "Another Old Citizen" One by one the old landmarks
are swept away by the hand of time. One by one our
old citizens are being called home by the God who gave them being.
We are called upon to record the death of one of the oldest Whitehall
Farmers Mr. Reuben Juckett who departed life May 22, 1873 at the
advanced age of 75. Mr. Juckett was a farmer having folled that
occupation for fifty-four years. By a life of industry and frugality
he had been able to provide himself with a fare share of this
worlds goods. His word was always as good as his bond, and although
prudent with his means, he was ever ready to give, wherever a
real object of charity was presented. Mr. Juckett was of that
circle of businessmen who laid the foundationof this town, many
of whom have passed away. The deceased leaves a son and two daughters,
the eldest of torn being the wife of our respected torn and Sardis
Mitchell, He re-torn allowed to the final resting circle of friends.
Kelly, William; died "last week"; New York papers please Take Notice: Wm. Kelly was killed at Pulpit
Point on Lake Champlain last week by a large rock
falling on him, while working one the N.Y. and Can. R.R. Kelly
was from the 19th Ward N.Y..C. where he has friends
residing. His remains were taken in charge by Coroner Nicholas,
who will furnish any information asked. Will New York Papers

Kavanaugh, John-died June 20, 1873; "A Man Drowned": Last Friday afternoon three railroad laboreres
who had been having a causual in our village started
to go down the lake in a small boat. When opposite the steam
boat landing, the boat upset, but their cries brought relief and
they were rescued from drowning. A few moments afterwards, one
of the men in the boats cried out to those on shore that two of
the men had fallen overboard and were drowning. One of them,
John Gacin, succeeded in saving himself, while the other man,
John Kavanaugh was drowned. On Monday the body of the man was
recovered just below the steamboat landing. Coroner Nicholas
empaneled a jury and an inquist was held. From the testimony
of John Snyder, a foreman of the railroad company the body was
idnetified as that of John Kavanaugh. John Gavin was then sworn,
who said he and the deceased were tipped from the boats by the
swells from the steamer "Vermont" but that he swam ashore,
while Kavanaugh was unable to do so, and was consequently drowned.
The jury, Stephen Carver Jr. foreman, returned a verdict of accidental
drowning.

Whitehall Fire Department, bron August 9, 1840, Whitehall
Masters, Nicholas M.-Hon. Nicholas M. Masters, father of John T. Masters, United States Collector for
this district died in Greewich, Washington County,
on Thursday (April 3, 1873) at an advanced age of He was born
and reared in the Schaghticoke, and lived there until a recent
period, when he removed to Greenwich and resided there to the
time of his death. He was a graduate of Williams college, and
became a member of the legal profession. He held the office of
Supervisor of his town, Sunogate of the county, and Member of
Assembly and for many years was esteemed one of the foremost our
reliable and intelligent citizens. He was leader in many benevolent
and Christian enterprises as well as an earnest and devoted patriot.
His name will long be cherished among the people of his county
as that of an honest man and Christian.

at Vambridge, died at her residence in that villiage on Monday
of last week. Her age was thirty-two years. She was the daughter
of Richard Burton of Cambridge and was an examplary lady. We
deeply sympathize with breaned.

Pierce was drowned last Sunday night by falling out
of a small boat-being too drunk to maintain his equilibrium.
He was a native of New England.

Stewart, Charles H.-died 10 December 1873,; aged
87 years; in West Haven, near the elbow
Thatcher, Mrs. George-drowned May 31, 1873; On Saturday, last, about 12 o'cloack as the canal boat C.
F. Norton, Capt. Geo. Thatcher, in tow of the steamer
Wetherbe, was passing Steam Mill Point about one-half mile below
Snody's Landing in the town of Dresden, the "birdie"
parted causing the boat to run aground. The captains wife, who
was on deck at the time, becoming frightened attempted to jump
upon the deck of a boat lying alongside the "NorOn",
missed her foothold and fell into the lake, sinking immediately.
All attempts to rescue her were in vain. Up to the present writing
the body has not been recovered. June 11, 1873-"Body Recovered"-The
body of Mrs. Geo. Thatcher who was drowned by falling from the
Canal Boat C. F. Norton, a few days since, was recovered last
Sunday (June 7). It was found a short distance below Snody's
landing, near where the unfortunate woman fell overboard. Coroner
Nicholas held an inquist and the jury brought in a verdict on
accidental drowning.
Tilford- Srah A.; died May 30, 1873; aged 26 years; A Sudden Death; Last Friday morning Mrs. Sarah
Tilford, aged 26, wife of John Tilford, a respectable
mechanic emplyed in Sutherlands boiler shop, was found lying on
the floor dead, by her husband, on his return home after an absence
of two days. The case is a sad one as Mr. Tilford had left his
wife on two days before, when she was enjoying good health. It
seems that Mrs. Tilford had been accustomed to taking morphine
and she had taken an overdose. Coroner Nicholas was notified
and summoned the following named persons as jurors: S. Carver,
Jr. Foreman, S. D. Pierce, James Adams Jr., M. Bixby, H.H. Knights,
P.J. Renois, J.A. Allen, L. Carrington, who proceeded to examine
the case, and from the testimony it appeared that, the deceased,
Sarah A. Tilford, was 26 years of age and that during a previous
illness she had contracted the habit of taking an opiate, which
practive she had followed to excess. It appeared in the evidence
of a little girl of 13 years who lived in the family, that she
left her alone on Thursday evening going home to her parents and
remaining during the night, and on returning Friday morning dounr
her lying on the florr. Failing to arouse her she called to Mr.
Griswold who came in and found her lifeless, and a few minutes
after the husband returned to his wife as described. From the
testimony of Dr. Holcomb the family phycian, Mr. Broughton, druggest,
Mr. Tilford, and others, the jury came to the conclusion that
the deceased came to her death from the effects of an overdose
of opiate which deceased was in the habit of using. In the affliction
Mr. Tilford has the sympathy of the entire community. The funeral
of the deceased took place from the Me Church last Sunday monring.
